Got an old car hanging around that you just don’t know what to do with? Can you get more money out of it as scrap metal than a vehicle? Why not donate it? There are many organizations that take used cars and auction them off to help support the unfortunate and the suffering of Utah and all over the nation. It may seem that here in Logan there’s nothing we can do and nowhere to contact because we’re so far away from Salt Lake City, but it’s not true. Most places will provide free towing for your vehicle, even way up here in the great, white north. If you want to help, here are a few places to look into.
In the event of a not so serious tumble you can pick up your motorcycle on its side and ride it home unlike a car wherein you need the service of a Tow Truck Services.
A local Sim card is an option as well, but is also has drawbacks. If you buy one, you will need to buy one for each country that you are in. That too will be yet another number that you need to give out to everyone that you want to be able to contact you. There are also heavy charges for outgoing calls. A cell phone is limited by cell towers as well. With a satellite phone there are no limitations to where you can use the phone.
And last, the taxi driver who took us home was a man from Iran. He arrived in an unmistakable classical cab-screaming yellow, shot shock absorbers, and hotter than Haiti inside the cab–only three minutes after I called. We told him of our encounter with the Iraqi Tow Truck Service guy. He knew of the Chaldean Christians, so I asked him where he was from. Iran, he said, ‘yeah, the country is taken over by the fanatics’ without my even asking about that.
Sure, if I’d done TCLOCS like you’re supposed to before every ride, I would have caught the flat tire perhaps. But then again, she WAS on the center stand, rear tire in the air as usual so I would not have noticed it being flat would I? I know, no excuse, an inspection even a cursory one would have revealed the damn screw sticking out as it was. See below.
I picked up a sheet metal screw on my rear tire, it was wedged in one of the grooves and slowly leaking air. I don’t remember the bike handling funny as I rode to work this morning but there you go.
On top of the usual student insurance in New Zealand, I bought extra travel insurance during the 3 summers I was travelling, as well as for my 2 South Island holidays and 1 Australia holiday. Thankfully, I never use the insurance at all during my 3 holidays.
This will make things easier when you file your taxes. Always be in touch with a tax expert to go over the case and the details. Additionally, before you can donate your boat, you need to make sure you have papers that prove that you own the boat.
